Metaverse Space Design: Creating a Unique Virtual Brand Experience

Core Principles of Metaverse Space Design

Metaverse space design is fundamentally different from traditional flat design or 3D environment design. It must simultaneously consider four dimensions: spatial sense, immersion, interactivity, and brand expression. Through our long-term practice, we have summarized three core principles of metaverse space design. The first principle is "experience first" — meaning all design decisions should revolve around the user's experience in the space, including the first impression upon entering, the sense of movement within the space, and interaction feedback with the environment. The second principle is "brand storytelling" — space design is not merely visual decoration but a three-dimensional presentation of the brand story, where every detail should convey the brand's values and personality.

The third principle is "technology adaptation" — metaverse space design must fully account for the platform's technical characteristics and users' device conditions, ensuring the design effect is optimally presented across different devices. These three principles are mutually supportive and indispensable. When designing metaverse spaces for any client, we first communicate deeply with the client about their brand story and target audience, then develop a complete design plan by integrating platform characteristics and technical conditions.

Integration of Brand Tone and Space Style

Integrating brand tone into virtual space design is the key to creating unique experiences. Every successful metaverse space should allow visitors to feel the brand's unique temperament from the first second they enter. Achieving this goal requires approaching it from multiple levels. First is the establishment of a color system — we extract the primary and secondary colors from the brand's VI system and extend and elevate them in the virtual space. For example, for tech brands, we tend to use cool tones like blue and purple paired with glowing effects to create a futuristic feel; for beauty brands, we use warm tones like pink and gold paired with soft lighting to create a warm and romantic atmosphere.

Second is the shaping of spatial forms. Different brand tones need to match different spatial forms. Sports brands are suited to open, dynamic spatial layouts, using angled walls, flowing lines, and dynamic installation art; luxury brands are suited to refined, elegant spatial layouts, using symmetrical structures, exquisite materials, and delicate lighting layers. In our design, we also "metaverse-ify" the brand's iconic elements — for example, transforming the brand logo into installation art within the space, converting the brand slogan into floating light and shadow text, allowing the brand DNA to be presented in an entirely new way.

User Experience Path Design

Excellent metaverse space design is not just about beautiful visual presentation — it also requires designing clear and smooth experience paths for users. We typically divide the metaverse user experience into five key stages: arrival, exploration, interaction, consumption, and revisit. In the arrival stage, we create a striking entrance design and guidance system to leave a deep first impression on users and stimulate their desire to explore. In the exploration stage, we use reasonable spatial layout and visual guidance to allow users to naturally discover various functional areas of the space without feeling lost or confused.

In the interaction stage, we design rich interactive touchpoints for users, including clickable interactive installations, trigger-based animation effects, virtual try-on features, etc., allowing users to engage in deep interaction with the space. In the consumption stage, we optimize the conversion path so users can conveniently view virtual products, complete purchases, or book experiences. In the revisit stage, we use membership systems, personalized recommendations, and continuously updated content to attract users to return to the space repeatedly. Each stage's design requires careful refinement to ensure consistency and completeness of the user experience.

Visual Style and Atmosphere Creation

Visual style is the most intuitive and impactful part of metaverse space design. In our visual design, we pursue "amazingness through restraint" — creating strong atmospheric feelings through carefully controlled visual elements. Light and shadow are our core tools for shaping spatial atmosphere. In the metaverse, we can achieve lighting effects that are impossible in the real world, such as flowing light bands, floating light spots, light walls that change with music rhythm, etc. These lighting effects not only beautify the space but, more importantly, guide users' attention, convey emotions, and create memorable points.

In addition to visual elements, we also focus on multi-sensory linkage between sight, hearing, and touch. In the metaverse, appropriate background music and environmental sound effects can greatly enhance the spatial sense of immersion. For example, in a virtual exhibition hall, we design differentiated background music for different exhibition areas, allowing users to perceive spatial transitions through music changes as they move. Furthermore, for XR devices that support haptic feedback, we also design haptic interaction feedback, allowing users to obtain real tactile sensations when touching virtual products. This multi-sensory linked design enables users to obtain a comprehensive experience that goes beyond the visual level.

Interaction Design and Feature Innovation

Interaction design is the core element that distinguishes metaverse spaces from traditional 3D displays. In our interaction design, we pursue the concept of "intuitive interaction" — allowing users to naturally interact with the space without any instructions. Achieving this goal requires following several key principles: first, metaphors from the physical world — we borrow extensively from real-world interaction patterns in virtual spaces, such as sliding doors, touch switches, drag operations, etc., allowing users to get started quickly based on existing experience; second, immediate feedback — every user operation should receive immediate visual, auditory, or haptic feedback, making users clearly aware of the operation's effect.

In terms of feature innovation, we continuously explore the possibilities of metaverse spaces. For example, we designed a virtual try-on system for retail clients, where users can let their digital human avatars wear different clothing for effect preview; for education clients, we designed an interactive teaching system where teachers can display teaching content in real time in virtual classrooms and interact with students; for exhibition clients, we designed an intelligent navigation system that can recommend visiting routes based on user interests.
